Specialist in pinpointing distresses by satellite and number one in 406 MHz maritime Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs), SERPE-IESM recently put on the market the world smallest COSPAS-SARSAT Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), the KANNAD 406 XS, designed to be easily integrated inside a pilot\'s life-vest.
This new generation of ELT offers all the improvements of the COSPAS-SARSAT system with the 406 MHz frequency :
Global coverage
Precise pinpointing (<1NM)
Identification of the aircraft in distress (the ELT transmits a unique aircraft identification number)
Efficient process of false alarms to avoid costly search and rescue operations
In the event of a crash, the pilot can activate the beacon immediately, since he carries it all the time in his flying suit or life-vest.
The KANNAD 406 XS is designed to float and the antenna should be deployed vertically. It can be tied to the life-vest with the tether supplied.
Two actions are necessary to activate it: beacking a seal and slinding down the \"ON\" switch. A flashing lamp and a buzzer indicate good operation.
The KANNAD 406 XS is programmed with a unique number (serial number, aircraft number...) to identify the distress. This operation takes only a few seconds with one of the equipments developed by SERPE-IESM.
Maintenance is limited to a monthly \"self-test\" and the lamp flashing sequence indicates the test result:
Short flashes indicate that the ELT has detected a problem (low RF power, low battery, faulty VCO lock...).
Long flashes indicate good operation.
Battery replacement is only necessary every 4 years thanks to Lithium technology.
